I'd never heard of wolf spiders before. They said they're normally 1 to 2 inches. Mine was waaay bigger than that. The spider forum expert said "Yeah I'd say the one in your pic is about as big as they get." Yay for me...
It's funny, we had put fertilizer in our yard a couple weeks ago, like <deleted> fertilizer cause a lot of our new sod wasn't taking, so I'm wondering if somehow it mutated him

OctoberChill,
Why don't you do it next time when you kill it and take it to the animal control center to examine it? Maybe to your own local zoo? That's my suggestion to you, man!
Because I'd like to know about this giant spider!

Re: Saw this in my driveway last night...
That's some spider! We don't kill spiders at our house, unless they are truly poisonous (brown recluse, black widow). Everything else gets a pass from us. If they are inside, we catch them and put them outside. We have lots of wolf spiders around here, but we consider them harmless. I've never seen one as big as that, though.
We have those big black and yellow spiders outside in the fall. My husband calls them banana spiders. I think they are gorgeous. They are also orb web spinners, which I love.

If it's as big as my face, it dies. That thing was just too big to let live. I have a wife and a cat and I'm not taking any chances with a mutant spider around the house.

Re: Saw this in my driveway last night...
We only have indoor spiders and outdoors spiders which are not poisionous.
All they do is bite you, and you will feel itch... you will have a small red spot of your skin for 2 or 3 days. Maybe you will feel like a sick for only a little bit.
But.... if we do see a "black widow", then you'll be died immediately!

True.... we didn't see any black widows here.... But if we do so, then we will stomp them at once!
Anyway, we do have regular toads and frogs here

We call those writing spiders. They have a scribble of webbing inthe center of their web. I love those! I had one on my porch all summer one year. It stayed in the same spot. Around the middle of October it made an egg sack and died right there. Quite sad.
