Taking Inflatables to "The Next Level"
Tacky...Lazy...uninspired and Unoriginal. These are the words I've seen describe inflatable decorations on this forum. Personally, I like them.
But then I thought, well hey, TK mentioned some people have found original ways to integrate inflatables and take them to the next level.
So, with that in mind, let's say you take an inflatable...and integrate it into the decoration.
I really liked the idea of the pumpkin hot air balloon with the skeletons in it.
Let's think outside the box...what would you do with that over sized balloon? And please don't say you'd just pop it and throw it away. For the purpose of this thread, let's say you have to use it. Maybe your kids insisted or your spouse or family member just insisted you use that darn thing. And if you don't have a spouse, maybe you'd just feel bad because it was a gift to you from someone who knows your a Halloween lover. Whatever the case, this is the scenario. What would you do with an inflatable. We already discussed that you think they are tacky and don't look that great, but as was mentioned in the other thread, there are ways of making an original display out of them.
Personally, I think I'd like to start with one of those inflatables that look like a monster's mouth or the entrace to a grave yard. But I wouldn't stop there. I would have something in front to greet the visitors. Maybe a grim reaper, a skeleton, a witch, a scare crow...or maybe that black cat inflatable that I mentioned. If I wanted to go with a cat theme, I'd probably try to find a giant cat's mouth or else the entrance of a grave yard.
Next, I would actually have the entrance lead to a grave yard set up. Maybe I could do a fence around the entrace. Inside I would do a grave yard, and have some black cats roaming around the grave yard. Of course, I'll have a jack o lantern at my door step, and
probably a few skeletons/dead bodies either rising out of the grave or just poking around.
Probably have some window decorations as well.
Yeah. Of course, right now I just have the black cat inflatable. What would you suggest I do with it?

This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.

Re: Taking Inflatables to "The Next Level"
I could probably only do this for one day, but I would like to get a large pumpkin inflatable, and a long extention chord, let's say about 100 feet, so I can plug in the light. Then I would fill it with healium instead of air, so it would float over my house for the 'Trick or Treat'ers. I could only do that on the actual day of ToT, however. I would not want my healium-filled pumpkin to get loose and become an obstruction to air traffic.

That's a neat idea. And have it all lit up to be seen up in the air.

(Just don't use hydrogen! We all know what happens when that's used.)

Then again, a mini-hindenburg explosion over a house would attract attention.

Oh yes, the loud bang is SURE to draw attention to the trick or treaters!

I would use Helium if I were to do it at all. I do plan to look into it wh en it gets closer to October, but I think it would be a bit expensive.
If I do some thing like that, however, it will be a giant pumpkin.

Re: Taking Inflatables to "The Next Level"
Y'know, if I could find a giant blow up skull I think that would work too. Or a bat. Something that flies. Maybe a blow up witch.
It would definately work for a pumpkin too, after all, it would be a pumpkin balloon.
I found my inflatable cat down in the basement. Still in the box, Havn't even used it yet. Once I get my own place, it'll be out for that Halloween and each one following if it doesn't get popped. Even if I get an apartment, I'm going to still try and do something with it. It's supposed to be indoor's only, when I saw that on the box I was thinking, where in doors would I put that thing? On a balcony or on a porch it might work. I think I'd like it if people could see it.

Like I said, in August, I'll be looking into doing something like that. I still have to figure out where I can buy healium. I can get the inflatable at any Wal-Mart.

Here are some pics of the inflatable I used last year.
Does it look tacky?

The cauldron with the ghosts is pretty cool!
Be afraid....be very afraid!
Re: Taking Inflatables to "The Next Level"
Yeah, that's my best one. I also like the headless horseman inflatable.
The problem is that I have a seven year old daughter and there are many children in our neighborhood as well. I can't go overboard with truly freaky stuff, not that I would really want to. I've heard people diss inflatables before, but I like them. The good ones, anyway.

Re: Taking Inflatables to "The Next Level"
I have several. I have a ghost that is about 12' tall, a pumpkin that is about 6' tall, a black cat with its back arched about 6' tall and my favorite; a black spider about 9' across. I only use the spider all season. I put it on my roof along with about 8 of those posable 4' spiders and web the house.
The airblowns are great for lighting at our party. They are fun and they sure mark the house at night.
I only like Halloween air blowns. I think the other seasonal ones look stupid. I mean really, Santa on a cycle. Ok. well, maybe that one is cool.

Re: Taking Inflatables to "The Next Level"
*shrug* I like inflatables for any holiday.
And I can't complain if someone's making the effort to decorate for Halloween, even if it is just an inflatable. It's better than nothing!
I can't wait to get my own place so I can finally display my black cat.
Although, if I display it inside I'll have to make sure my cat doesn't claw at it...

Re: Taking Inflatables to "The Next Level"
The flying pumpkin idea might have seemed a bit grand, but as it turns out, it's a little too rich for my blood this year. Due to some unexpected medical expenses, I won't be able to do anything like that this year, but you can bet I'll be doing something.
