I'm not a candy corn fan, either, although I recognize that it is an iconic Halloween candy. To me it just tastes like sugar, not much flavor to it. My husband likes it, though.

Demon Duck, "Affy Tapple" is the brand name. They are actualy carmel apples, but for some reason, in my neck of the woods, everyone called them Taffy Apples. I don't know why, as there is a world of difference between Taffy and Carmal. And I agree, I love carmel apples, especialy the Affy Tapple brand.
Regarding Corn Candy, I never met anyone who didn't like it until now. It's not the favorite, but during October it was hard to keep it in the house as we all devoured it with gusto. Brachs brand was the prevelent, and it was a major Halloween staple.
Carmel Corn and popcorn balls are also a major tradition for Halloween where I come from.

Mike I am aware of the huge difference between caramel and taffy. Everyone around here just calls them caramel apples and I'm not sure I could tell you a brand name off the top of my head. As for candy corn I'm glad everyone else likes it cause I'm certainly not going to eat it! BTW my wife doesn't like it either. Moving to caramel corn now that is tasty. Though we always seemed to have it around Christmas(in a giant tub of butter, caramel and white cheddar). I've never heard of a popcorn ball from what i see it seems similar in concept to a rice crispy treat only in ball form instead of squares. They sound delicious.

LOL. I guess I like my sweets to have a flavor with them--fruit or chocolate or caramel or something, not just dead sweet.Rising Dead Man wrote:Sugar not tasting that good? Demonic Duck, I'm surprised you haven't heard of popcorn balls before. They are indeed pretty popular around Halloween, though perhaps less so now that people are afraid to give out homemade treats. I am not really into them myself--I prefer my popcorn salty, not sweet. But to each his own.

Re: 2012 Sightings
I found a pumpkin candle with a witch hat, a pumpkin head with cloth over it with glowing eye's, some jewelry for my girls and lots of idea's, I am in the process of trying to make a decoupage pumpkin I saw there. I might be able to find a camera and start taking pics, cross your fingers!!!!ScarecrowJack wrote:Did you have any luck at the festival, Witchy?witchy wrote:

I have noticed that stores like Walmart and Target have a Halloween link on their websites. It is not prominently featured but it is there nonetheless.

DemonDuck, a pop corn ball is exactly that. It's very simular to a Rice Krispie treat, only it's made with popcorn and shaped into a ball. Years ago, one of our neighbors gave out home made pop corn balls that she made from scratch. This was before all the horror stories about poisinings, razor blades in the appless and the like. They were THE BEST pop corn balls I ever ate before or since, and I really miss them. Even after I stopped ToTing I would go to her house for a couple of pop corn bals to put in my lunch pail.

Oh my goodness, did you make those things, Witchy? I had thought you were showing us stuff you bought. You are very talented. The tree man reminded me of Treebeard from LOTR.

Did someone say MALLOW PUMPKINS? You would be hard pressed to find candy that is a greater weakness of mine. I'm a relatively healthy eater, but when Autumn rolls around, I probably consume an excess of 1000 calories a week solely comprised of freaking MALLOW PUMPKINS.
