Been watching the rebroadcasts of all the news reports that were running that morning. I can't describe the feeling I still get when I'm watching that stuff.

I was watching it this am and remembering that day. My kids were little and It was so confusing. I was glued to the radio because I was at work. I owned a daycare, so my kids were with me. Still, I remember being scared.
I had that same feeling watching T.V. today.

There was a Tribute to 9/11 at my work place last Friday, and it never fails to move me to tears when those fire engines and police cars let go with all the syrens, horns and flashing lights. It's really something to see.
I think 9/11 should be permanantly instated as a day of rememberance.

What does that have to do with the Battle of Brandywine? ... or Mountain Meadows?
... bothers me how people (in general) tend to "forget" history just as much as they "remember" it...

Sorry, Spooky... it bothers me how many historical events are followed by the "Remember" mantra and they're forgotten. Everyone only remembers September 11, 2001 because they lived through it... but people tend to forget other historical events that are just as important. Remember the Alamo? (for example)
Ask anyone who was alive when JFK was shot where they were when they got the news and they can all pretty much tell you... but ask a 7th grader where JFK was shot and you might get a blank stare.
Brandywine was a battle fought during the American Revolutionary War. It started September 11, 1777. This is the same war in which the Hessian troops fought; and, to give it a Halloween tie, it's the same Hessian troops that spawned Washington Irving's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow". So to me, it's a little more significant and a much nicer a day to remember than some sucky day I had in college in 2001 that's emphasized because 2000 miles away someone crashed an airplane into a building. I only remember that stupid day because of the plane crash or I'd happily forget it. And, you wouldn't believe the excuses people used to not go to class...
What I'd like to know is if anyone learned anything from 9/11? If you did and if you REMEMBER those who died for more than just dying in a "terrorist attack"... then GREAT!
... but remember those who fought and died for this country and the freedoms we all enjoy on a daily basis as well.
That's all I'm sayin'.
I guess I get a little touchy when it comes to 9/11/01 because it brings back some horrible memories that I'd rather forget-- but there they are every year like a slap in the face. That... and I feel like people are "fake" when it comes to remembering the day because I've associated it with a bunch of college kids looking for an excuse to ditch class without really understanding the significance of the event.
