That's awful, especially considering his age.

I'd hate to see young kids carry weapons such guns, knives, baseball bat, chains, etc almost everyday.

I know. I would have held out for at least $20

The rest of his life??? If I'm not mistaken, this crime occured in Florida. Florida has a death penalty, and I think, though I can't swear to it, that they still use an electric chair. That kid just might end up on death row. So two people could die for 4 bucks.
What a waste. What a horible waste.

There are some states where they still execute the mentally disabled, but I don't think there are any that execute children.

MacPhantom, in many states, a teenager even as young as 14 can be tried as an adult. That means that he could be subjected to the very same punishmnts as an adult would be, including the death panalty. I don't know what the Florida laws are in regards to trying juviniles as adults, but I do know that Florida does have death by electrocution, unless they changed it to lethal injection, which I doubt. So if that boy is tried as an adult, he could possibloy face the electric chair. There are so many appeals that it will take 15 or 20 years. By then, he will be in his late 30s or early 40s, but he can be executed none the less.

This is a subject that makes me so angry I don't even have words, I just need to bite and tear at something to get all my aggression out.
Needless to say I'm not great at debating. Or normally a very verbal person. But the fact that he did this for only $4 makes it pretty evident that he has an under developed sense of reason. And being a 14 year old
boy, that's pretty common. Yes he should be punished, severely. But it wont become obvious until later weather this boy is a sane and reasonable person who screwed up incredibly badly, or a really effed up person. I'm not saying 'this is society's fault, set him free', there is a dead person. And being accountable for your actions is......
*claws and bites at things* Alright, I feel much better now.

It's pretty rare for a fourteen year old to be tried as an adult in a state where they have the death penalty, precisely for the reason that, if convicted, the state could face the possibility of executing a minor. Sure, even with a rapid appeals process the convicted would likely be an adult by the time the sentence was carried out, but it makes it harder to get a jury to convict if they know a child could conceivably be put to death for the crime.
