Stayin' home too. I don't have patience for crowds and loud noises.

Plus I won't need a designated driver. :-)

New Year's is always sort of a non-event for us. My husband and I will probably share some champagne, and we have bought sparkling non-alcoholic drinks for the kids already. We will all stay up to watch the ball drop in Times Square--though of course, we are on Central Time, so we see it drop at 11, then see the replay at midnight.

My college son is due to have his wisdom teeth out on Weds., Dec. 30, so I'm guessing he's not going to be in a party mood that night, either. He is slated to spend late Jan. through early Aug. in Germany (semester abroad thing), and he needs to get all this dental stuff done before he leaves.

Because I am Southern, I have a particular meal I always make on New Year's. Black-eyed peas, greens, and cornbread (no sugar, please; Southerners take their cornbread without it). I grew up on this stuff and love it, actually, but my family is a huge disappointment in that respect. They choke it down every year. College son is actually kinda glad he will have an excuse not to eat. The thing is, every one of them was born in the South, even my husband. But my husband's parents were not Southern, so they never ate the traditional meal. Too bad. He just doesn't know what's good.

We go to a church that keeps Christmas through Twelfth Night (Jan. 6, the Feast of Epiphany), so I am playing with the idea of doing something special for it. Maybe I'll make a King Cake, like they do in New Orleans. We will leave all our Christmas decor up until Jan. 7.

Murfreesboro, not sure how your son is having his teeth removed but when I got mine done I went to an oral surgeon, had him knock me out and all went smooth as ice, no swelling, no pain back to work in two days.....It was the best experience with a dentist I ever had. He yanked out 3 wisdom teeth and he put them in a little envelope and I found them in my pocket. No swelling or anything.

Hi ilovemichaelmyers, that a bummer you have to work both holidays!!

Spooky I had two wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon, he had to break my jaw to remove one of the teeth, it sucked big time!! I was miserable for 2 weeks!! Now my daughter needs it done & I'm worried!!! :(

I was planning on looking for Dick Clark and poking him with a stick. See if he pops.

Do they still wheel him out once a year?

I thought that he retired after his stroke.

I read his book. It was very informative. Amazing how all of his warnings about Al Qaeda were disregarded by the previous administration in the months leading up to 9/11. You'd think the advice of the chief counter-terrorism adviser to the National Security Council would carry some weight, but....

You might not want to poke him with a stick. He probably still has some friends working in the covert branches of government.
