Magician

Post by Christoph777 » Mon Oct 01, 2007 4:13 pm

Im trying to come up with a good magician costume. I already got the black pants, white dress shirt, bow tie, and hat. Ive also got a multi pocketed vest and a collection of various wands as well as other magic tricks. Im thinking of getting the pockets in the pants lengthened. Anybody think this is a good idea?

What you might want to do is create "Double-Pockets". It's like laying one pocket OVER the other, and stitching the top edge together, between them so it acts like a divider between the two. One pocket can be long, the other could be normal.

Don't let the longer pocket go any further than down to the knee. If there's something long in it, it'll ruin the way you walk and it'll be a clue that you have something planned.

A red cumberbund might be a classy item for the costume. And it might be a great place to hide props.

I love the idea! :) I dressed as a Cabaret Magician for my birthday this year and it went down a storm! Of course, nobody else dressed up.. but that's not the point

I think it will be fantastic if you can go round doing some really simple but effective magic tricks too - even if it's just the endless coloured handkerchiefs thing - you'll be the hit of the party :D

I like the idea of the double pockets, I will probably use it now, if I can find a taylor that will do it. As for the cumberbund I might use that if I can find a good one. Magic shops generally do not sell magician's clothes except for the hat and in some cases the cape, if they double as costume shops than they might offer some sort of pants as well, but I already got a good pair of magician pants. Theyre ordinary black dress pants which I plan to alter the pockets as I mentioned. Usually magicians make their own clothes either from scratch or from buying ordinary clothes and altering them, or having them custom made. A cumberbund could be good for holding magic props but I might just wear a plain belt. I already got a vest that Im going to use for that. I have a black vest that is used by SWAT Team members and it has many pockets so it will be good for that. It is better than the paper thin black and red striped vest I have. I also have a good cape and a hat that has a special compartment for hiding stuff. As for lengthening the pocket I want it long enough to hold my good wand but it will not go below the knee, if it were that long than it would be hard to reach stuff in the pocket. As for my magic tricks, since I am a real life magician, although a beginner at that, I do have some really good tricks that should be good for catching attention that I hope to use.
