Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

Sorry about the misattribution, HH. I think the end times will come at some point, but it's impossible to know when, and the only reasonable thing to do is to live your life as fully as possible. After all, if you believe in a creator God, it follows that He put you here for a reason. My middle son ...

Re: Catching up

Thanks for the suggestion, HH. I'm still on the fence, honestly.

Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

It's true that every generation believes it's living in the End of Days. Sometimes I think it's almost a wish, a reluctance to believe that the world could go on without them in it. And of course your aunt is Biblically correct, Andy. Even Jesus said He couldn't tell people when it would happen, onl...

Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

Andy, two of my three kids are all obsessed with the notion of the Biblical end times. I wish they were less interested in it, honestly. But my daughter currently works in a Christian bookstore, so she can't really escape it. She says books about the end times are flying off the shelves. She thinks ...

Re: Catching up

Thanks for giving us a heads up on your summer schedule. I hope all your activities are even beyond your dreams! On Sunday I got a text message from my cousin in Southern Cal. Her daughter is getting married in her backyard on June 7, and she wants any and all of us to come. I'm conflicted. It's a l...

Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

It's interesting to me that the women in your family have also experienced the vivid pregnancy dreams. Maybe I should ask some of the mothers I know about that. I don't often dream about the dead, though I imagine conversations quite often with my father, and with my favorite aunt. Once in a while I...

Re: Catching up

I do miss some of our regulars from previous years, but it is what it is. I'm always happy to see you all. That Simpsons scene is so funny! Re women's swimsuits, it's a trade off. Most two piece suits show more skin, even if they're not bikinis, and if you're milky white like me, slathering all that...

Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

I don't know about multiverses, but otherwise I think dreams can function in all those ways. Sometimes you can tell that they were triggered by random events from your recent experience. Sometimes they seem to be symbolic of problems or issues that are bugging you. And sometimes they do seem to have...

Re: Catching up

I had two boys before I had my girl, and I was shocked at the swimsuits I saw for sale for little girls. For the boys, I could spend $5 for a pair of trunks, either abstract colorful patterns, or sharks, whatever. But for my preschool or kindergarten age girl, I was having to pay three times as much...

Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

That's a wild one! I can't begin to interpret it. But I have occasionally had doppelganger dreams, if that's a word I can use to describe coming up against yourself somehow. I recall a nightmare I had in my youth, in which I was being pursued by a satanic cult, and I was running from them. Then I ca...

Re: Catching up

As if parenting weren't already complicated enough, now folks have to worry about social media! That was starting to be an issue when my younger two were in high school, but it's just so much worse all the time, it seems. And starts at ever younger ages. You are wise to keep your girls away from it ...

Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

The nightmare I remember best happened when I was maybe 23 or 24. I'd been to San Francisco for the first time the summer before, which made a great impression on me, but I was back in Nashville when I had my dream. In my dream, I was in San Francisco, and there was a big earthquake. I looked up, an...

Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

If by lucid dreaming, you mean that sometimes you become aware in your dreams that you are dreaming, yes, I've had that experience, too. Usually it happens when I'm having a nightmare, and I edit it in some way to make it less terrifying.

Re: Halloween dreams and nightmares

There are many instances of famous novels coming from dreams. A recent one I know of was the Twilight series, which started with a dream Stephanie Meyers had of the girl and her vampire lover in a meadow. Another I know of from more classic literature is Henry James' novel The Ambassadors, which sta...

Re: Catching up

It does sound like she has an extraordinary talent, but I can also understand your mixed emotions. My own family is not athletic, but I went through a phase where I was an intense figure skating fan. At that time (mid 80s to early 00s), the coaches said that puberty could really mess with their fema...
